Uni Games

The origins of InterVarsity hockey lie with MUHC, with the first match being played in 1908 between women's teams from Melbourne and Adelaide Universities. The following year saw the first men's match, between Melbourne and Sydney.
These days the Australian University Games (AUG) is Australia's largest annual multi sport event, attracting over 6,000 participants in 31 sports. Held each September/October, the Games provide university athletes with the opportunity to compete against each other in a national carnival, with an action-packed, week-long social program conducted to complement the sporting activities.
The University of Melbourne has won InterVarsity hockey more often than any other university, and we enter both Men's & Women's Hockey teams each year to uphold our proud traditions. Students who achieve outstanding sporting performances are recognised with the award of a prestigious Sports Blue; in over 100 years only 600 men and women have earnt this honour for hockey.
Melbourne is the defending champion in Men's Hockey.
