Scholarships and Giving

The University and the Hockey Club offer sport scholarships to help support student-athletes, through the University's Elite Athlete Program.

Donations to the Hockey Chapter of the University of Melbourne Sport Foundation help the club to:

  • Provide scholarships for student-athletes;

  • Provide better coaching;

  • Keep fees affordable; and

  • Support improvements to facilities for hockey at the University.

Elite Student Athletes

The University and the Hockey Club offer sport scholarships to help support student-athletes, through the University's Elite Athlete Program.

In addition to these scholarships, the Elite Athlete Program has several other components that student-athletes may be eligible for, including:

  • Elite Athlete Entry Scheme (assisting applicants for admission to the University whose previous study has been impacted by elite level training, competition or performance).

  • Elite Athlete Recognition (providing flexible study assistance for recognised elite athletes, who due to their sporting endeavors, have extensive, yet inflexible, commitments that may interfere with their study).

  • International Travel Grants (for students selected to represent their country - including in underage teams - in overseas competition).

For more details, visit Melbourne University Sport's Elite Athlete Program page.

Note that the University does not offer US-style tuition fee sports scholarships.

Eligibility

To hold a hockey scholarship, you must (during the applicable scholarship year) be:

  1. a playing member of MUHC (during the winter season); and

  2. a current University of Melbourne student (enrolled in a degree).

Potential/prospective students or club members can of course apply (any offers are then conditional upon enrolment at the University and joining the club).

Scholarships are open to all nationalities.

The Sport Foundation

The University of Melbourne Sport Foundation was established to create a significant endowment (corpus) to future proof the sporting clubs and sporting programs of the University. It was launched in 2012, with the Hockey Club taking the initiative as the inaugural Chapter.

The Foundation enables benefactors to receive tax deductions for their donations in support of their sporting interest. The University manages the Foundation investment as part of the wider University Endowment Fund.

Each year the interest earnt by the Hockey Chapter of the Foundation is available for the Club to spend, or add to the fund if it chooses. The Club may also access the capital for worthwhile projects with the approval of the University's Board of Sport (providing an important safeguard on the investment).

The Foundation is an important part of MUHC's future (and present), helping the Club to:

  • Provide scholarships for student-athletes;

  • Provide more and better coaching;

  • Keep fees affordable; and

  • Support improvements to facilities for hockey at the University.
