Summer Hockey

Summer Hockey is a group of social competitions that run from roughly mid-October to mid-December or mid-February each year (with a break over Christmas, New Year and January).

Competitions are offered in Mixed, Men's, Women's, and Masters. Matches are always played at the same, designated venue (for that particularly competition), at 7pm, 8pm & 9pm, on a set day of the week (and no, there's no training!).

Teams are open to anyone, whether you're a member of MUHC during the regular season, a member of another club, or don't play for a club at all. Team entries are typically organised in late September/early October.

Expression of interest process

** Mixed teams have been filled and a wait list has been started. Those who expressed interest will be advised whether they are in a team or on the wait list by Thursday 11 October **

If you'd like to play summer hockey, please complete this form, listing the competition(s) you'd like to play in. Please keep in mind the following:

  1. Expressions of interest are run on a system of 'first in, first served', so the earlier you submit your interest, the better the chances you have of getting the competition you request.
  2. You may play in more than one team, e.g. a mixed team and a women’s team. Fill in two different forms if this is the case.
  3. If there are particular people who you would like to play in the same team with, you can request this, but it may not be possible to satisfy all requests.
  4. If you don't pay on time (see Fees below), you'll lose your spot in the team.
  5. You have the option of listing a second preference team in case you do not get into your first preference team.
  6. If the competition you want to play in is full and you have not listed a second preference, you'll be placed on a waiting list in case someone pulls out/doesn't pay their fees.
  7. Please consider your availability for the season (see Fixtures and Dates) when expressing interest.
  8. Teams are capped at:

WANTED - Team Managers

Are you interested in organising a MUHC summer team? Those who nominate for Team Manager will NOT have to pay fees (and no, you won't have to collect money from players and the hassles associated with it). Collecting money from players will be arranged through the Treasurer. You will be responsible for paying umpires and coordinating your team each week. Further details on receiving cash for umpire payments will be released upon appointment of team managers.

Summer hockey fees are $110 for non-students / $100 for students, paid up front for the season. This cost is per competition that you're playing in (e.g. if you're playing in both a Monday Mixed team and a Thursday Women's team, the cost would be $220 all up for a non-student), and includes the cost of weekly umpire payments.

Goalkeepers & Team Managers are not required to pay fees (for that particular team). Yep, $0!

Process of Payments

After the deadline for expressions of interest, players will be notified which team they're playing with, and a request for payment will be made. Players will have five calendar days to pay their fees via the Shop Shop. If payment is not received or arrangement not made with the Treasurer (, then those on the waiting list will be invited to pay within the subsequent seven calendar days (and so-on until the team lists are full).

Further details to be released with team confirmation emails.

New Players

Players who wish to play Summer Hockey with MUHC, but were not members of MUHC or another club that plays in a Hockey Victoria competition during the winter season need to register through Hockey Victoria, selecting an 'Offseason Playing Membership' ($25 for adults). If you are playing in a competition at SNHC, you may also want to purchase a $20 'Supporter Membership', as this will get you into SNHC rather than having to pay the door charge every week.

Fixtures and Dates

All competitions run by Hockey Victoria finish in December. Hockey Victoria competition fixtures will be made available on HockeyNet as they become available.

Dates for the 2018/19 Monday night Mixed competition run by MUHC are tbc, but anticipated to run from late October through til early February (with a break over Christmas/New Years). Each competition consists of 10 rounds, and the MUHC competition additionally has 1 week of finals.
