Play Uni Games

InterVarsity hockey is contested as part of the annual 'Australian University Sport Nationals' (previously known as the 'Australian University Games'), between teams of current students from universities around the country. Division 1 Nationals are held each September/October (division 2 being earlier in the year), and provide university athletes with the opportunity to compete against each other in a national carnival, with an action-packed, week-long social program conducted to complement the sporting activities. Division 1 Nationals is Australia's largest annual multi sport event, attracting around 8,000 participants in over 30 sports.

The history of InterVarsity hockey however goes back long before the inception of AUG. The first match was played in 1908 between women's teams from the University of Melbourne and the University of Adelaide, and the following year saw the inaugural men's match - between Melbourne and Sydney. Since then teams from MUHC have established a proud tradition at InterVarsity, having won both the men's and women's titles more than any other university.

Students who achieve outstanding sporting performances are recognised with the award of a prestigious Sports Blue, and best & fairest trophies are also awarded.
